Atwood Ales - Dark Harbor
Style: Oyster Stout
ABV: 5.00%

Beer and oyster shells have been hanging out together for hundreds of years, with oyster shells providing a source of calcium carbonate for adjusting brewing water chemistry. Somewhere along the way, the entire oyster — shell, meat and brine — ended up in the kettle, and thus “oyster stout” was born. Our “black ale with bivalves” is a collaboration with Drayton Harbor Oyster Company, whose oyster beds lie just 2 miles directly west of the brewery. A subtle, underlying, caramel wave carries a slight brininess all the way to the roasty shores of barley town. In the fall and winter, major low tides occur at night, leaving our local oyster farmers to brave the “Dark Harbor” to work the tide flats and harvest their bounty.

Atwood Ales - Fresh Disgrace
Style: Belgian Ale
ABV: 5.90%

Sandwiched on a shelf between some Oktoberfest lagers and some fresh hops IPAs in Autumn, this beer might just make sense. It’s not a festbier and it’s not an IPA, but it is a beer brewed with fresh hops and intention. This clean, bright, harvest ale highlights the crusty, nutty notes of locally grown malts and the pepper, honeysuckle, red apple and grass notes from our estate-grown Tettnang hops. Is it a fresh hopped Belgian-style pale ale? Maybe. Whatever the case, we imagine a world where you just drink and enjoy this beer as one on an endless spectrum of beer possibilities. Brewed with Skagit Valley barley malts; estate-grown Tettnang hops; estate-grown Tettnang FRESH HOPS; local Sterling hops from Bredenhof Hop Farms in Chilliwack, BC; and Norwegian farmhouse yeast.

Atwood Ales - Grange
Style: Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 5.80%

The beauty of farmhouse ales is that they aren’t as much about style as they are about brewing philosophy. We make beer that we like to drink, using ingredients we have available and don’t worry about what box someone wants to put it in. Grange is the French word for “barn,” which we think is an appropriate homage to the 100 year old structure wherein this beer is born and raised. Our love of malt flavor slowly crept into what was originally a light, saison recipe, and turned the end result into something completely different and unique. Toast and biscuit flavors lay the foundation for clean bitterness, and a spicy, peppery finish.

Atwood Ales - Grasp the Nettle
Style: Saison
ABV: 4.20%

Long a foe of your exposed epidermis whilst hiking and gardening, the stinging nettle seeks redemption in this saison. Imagine a landscape of evergreen trees, huckleberries, trailing blackberries, mossy, decaying logs, and low, leafy greenery rooted in rich, dank soil. Now imagine that strangely flavorful landscape as a liquid flowing into your mouth.

Atwood Ales - Keera's Yard
Style: Biere de Garde
ABV: 6.80%

Our “old-time woofy dog” is always on guard. The malty brother-in-law to saison, our “beer to keep” is inspired by the malt forward farmhouse ales of northern France. Both rich and light-bodied, hearty and refreshing, clean and musty, this complex beer features an amber hue, spicy, toasted malt and a crisp finish. Brewed with Copeland Dark malt from Skagit Valley Malting.

Atwood Ales - La Frite Potato
Style: Saison
ABV: 10.00%

A strong saison brewed with 40lbs of estate grown potatoes. This beer has a bready malt foundation, crisp effervescence, and spicy, earthy yeast character. While they don't add much in the flavor department, the potatoes do act as a source of simple sugar, lightening the body of the beer and making it drink lighter than the 10%ABV that it is. 100% Skagit Valley Malt.

Atwood Ales - Platonia
Style: Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 5.00%

The now is what is real. In the eternal present, a possible beer configuration exists that arranges elements of classical and modern brewing. The resulting time capsule of fruity and spicy farmhouse yeast, noble bittering, and soft malts balances asymmetrically with dried grass, fruit salad and Pinot Gris notes from a timeless summer. You can drink saison from a can, but… maybe pour it in a glass. Pair it with soft cheeses or just quench your thirst. Or both at the same time. Whatever may be, enjoy this saison now. Time is an illusion. Brewed with Skagit Valley barley and wheat malts; PNW oats; estate-grown Tettnang hops; German Huell Melon and Hallertau Blanc hops; and Belgian saison yeast. Part joke, part reality, part psychological experiment.

Atwood Ales - Rhuty
Style: Sour
ABV: 4.20%

We added our farm grown rhubarb to a kettle soured blonde ale. The result is this refreshing, easy drinking ale with a layer of fruity deliciousness. This beer's mild tartness is created by both a blend of Lactobacillus bacteria and the rhubarb itself.

Atwood Ales - The Fundamentals of Hugging
Style: Amber
ABV: 5.20%

An Amber Ale - but it’s not an amber ale like it’s 1998. More like if a Vienna lager was fermented with saison yeast. A little blast of farmhouse character, some spice, earth, and rye notes, medium body, dry finish

Atwood Ales - Tiny Triple
Style: Strong Ale
ABV: 8.10%

TINY TRIPEL is inspired by the recipe for TRINN TRIPEL that we brewed exclusively for the characterful, but now defunct TINY TAPROOM in downtown Blaine. TINY TRIPEL is a contradictory beer of substance and simplicity, strength and drinkability, danger and comfort – light-bodied, easy drinking and deceptively strong. Brewed with Skagit Valley barley and wheat malts; local Magnum, Sterling and Mt. Hood hops from Bredenhof Hop Farms in Chilliwack, BC; and Belgian abbey yeast.

Atwood Ales - Triticale
Style: Brett Saison
ABV: 7.50%      IBU: 28.0

Brewed with a large percentage of malted wheat-rye hybrid grain called, Triticale, as well as malted wheat and barley. Triticale adds some earthy spice to this beer's flavor profile and complements the spicy, fruity character obtained from the mixed culture fermentation of Saccharomyces and Brettanomyces yeasts. Mild funky, barnyard character and notes of tropical and stone fruit. A great introduction to Brett beers, particularly for folks who are afraid of classic Brett descriptors like “horse blanket” and “ox urine!” Brewed with 100% estate grown, Tettnang hops and 100% Skagit Valley Malt.

Atwood Ales - Vectors
Style: Blonde Ale
ABV: 4.60%

Brewing scientists have identified the source of everyone’s favorite fruity aromas: thiols! Using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, scientists have activated an existing gene in brewer’s yeast that allows the yeast to biotransform higher quantities of aromatic thiols. There are no kettle, whirlpool or dry-hops in this beer… Using only our estate-grown Cascade hops in the mash, Skagit Valley barley, wheat and buckwheat malts, and a “thiolized” yeast, we created this nutty, grassy, dry blonde ale with notes of white grape and gooseberry. Scan the QR code to learn more about “thiolized” yeast!
