Catawba Brewing Co. - Grapefruit Cold IPA
Style: American IPA
ABV: 6.50% IBU: 30.0

This beer was brewed with a lager-esque grain bill, including Pilsner malts and flaked rice. It also employs a cold-fermenting lager yeast strain -- hence the name, Cold IPA. However, it's actually fermented a bit warmer than usual for a lager at 65 degrees, making this a hybrid style that still manages to earn its A (for ale). And this is why you better not even think of calling it an IPL. As you'd expect, it was hopped aggressively with a blend of Columbus, Amarillo, Mosaic, and Lemondrop -- both in the whirlpool and dry-hopped. And we even threw in some grapefruit puree during fermentation, because why not? We're racing right past our first Cold IPA into our first fruited Cold IPAs.

Hammer Factor Double IPA is named after the last class V drop on the famed and treacherous Green River Narrows in our beloved Western North Carolina. With a generous amount of the finest 2-Row Pale Malted Barley and low mash temperature, it finishes like a dry hair day at 8.6 ABV. Plenty of Azacca and Amarillo hops lend fruity aromas and flavor and the Willamette Valley’s finest Nugget hops in the beginning of the boil lend 85 IBU’s. Drop off the shelf too early while running Hammer Factor and get hammered in the hole. Start drinking pints of Hammer Factor IPA too early in the evening and... well, you get the idea.

There's a myth that one can't consume dark liquids when it's hot outside. But do you apply the same misguided mythology to coffee? Of course not. And that's why we're here to say there's a place for dark coffee beers in the summer. There, we said it. Now go ahead and enjoy a pint of Maple Breakfast Stout and try to tell us we're wrong. Brewed with caramel & chocolate malts and roasted barley, this beer began as a smooth, full-bodied American Stout. From there, we blended in cold-brewed Arabica coffee until it had just the right balance of chocolate, dark roast, toasted nuts, and a subtle hint of blueberry. Then we topped it with a light drizzle of real maple syrup, finishing our new favorite breakfast beer on a sweet (but not too sweet!), creamy, frothy note.

Masks are mandatory these days, but if there's one thing quarantine taught us it's that pants very well may be optional. And on a related note, Pants Optional should be considered mandatory drinking. (In our humble opinion, of course.) Feel free to draw your own flowchart if needed. Pants Optional streaks onto the scene with bright citrus fruit flavors and an obscene amount of fresh hop character -- Citra, Lemondrop, and Simcoe. Fermented out with our Cloud Cover yeast strain, then infused with an immodest addition of juicy tangerine. This NE-style DIPA is hazy orange in color with a soft, frothy mouthfeel. Dangerously crushable for a double!
