Sometimes even the most successful jai alai players need an equipment tune-up. With the pelota reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour when it hits a player’s cesta, or hand-held wicker basket, their gear will be sent to a cestero or master cesta producer to be adjusted or patched. The master Jai Alai producers at Cigar City Brewing have taken their iconic IPA recipe and punched it up with a higher ABV and an intense dry-hop regimen of Idaho 7, Amarillo, Pacifica, and Equinox hops to put a new spin on Jai Alai. Here’s to masters of their art, be it making cestas or making brilliant hop-forward beers. Tangerine and candied orange aromas mingle with notes of pine notes on the nose of this deceivingly drinkable Double IPA. Flavors of hop resin, clementine and honeydew are supported by a pronounced caramel malt character and a spicy alcohol texture. Incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable.

Henry Plant’s grandiose hotel boasted Florida’s first elevator and is now the home to the University of Tampa and the Henry B. Plant Museum. Cigar City Brewing celebrates Henry Plant and his historic hotel with Minaret English-style Pub Ale, a malt-forward yet easy-drinking ale that brings to mind the nuanced and quaffable beers of the UK. Cigar City Brewing - Oktoberfest
Style: Marzen
ABV: 5.70% IBU: 20.0

Our Festbier nods firmly toward the style’s history with it’s amber color, bready malt complexity and restrained hop flavor and bitterness. At the heart of this beer is a malt bill of six different German malt varieties, including a generous helping of Munich malt. After adding Hallertauer Mittlefruh hops we ferment the beer with an authentic Bavarian lager yeast, resulting in a clean, dry and complex lager that’s at once intriguing and drinkable.

Cigar City Brewing serves as a hop-lover’s best friend and a cellarman’s worst nightmare with Scourge & Minister, a lavishly hopped Hazy India Pale Ale brewed with Azacca, Chinook, Amarillo, Motueka and Experimental South African hops. The volume of dry-hops used in this fruit-forward beer has our brewing staff shouting “cruelty” and IPA devotees crying “kindness”.

Cigar City Brewing - Space Pope

Is the Space Pope reptilian? That question remains to be answered but in the meantime we have his eponymous IPA to consider. Brewed with an astronomical amount of Mosaic, Citra, CTZ and Galaxy hops that lend notes of passionfruit and melon to the clean flavors of base malt and a touch of crystal malt for depth of character.

The most popular of these beers, Humidor Series IPA, is being reintroduced to the world in 2020 through an embrace of the essence of its unmistakable citrus-forward hop profile, the Jai Alai IPA recipe. The same beer you loved as Humidor Series IPA is now ready to expand your notions of wood-rested ales as Spanish Cedar Jai Alai IPA.

Cigar City Brewing - Tocobaga
Style: Red IPA

The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500’s. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida. Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you can see Tampa Bay as they did.

Cigar City Brewing - Tony Jannus
Style: Pale Ale

This dry-hopped pale ale aged on Spanish cedar was first made at our Tampa International Airport Location but due to high demand we brew this beer year round at our brewery. Orange, cedar and toasty malt aromas. Flavors of pithy orange peel and cracker-like malt character are complimented by soft tannins and spice from the use of Spanish cedar in this rare offering.

This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

A truly unique India Pale Ale, this iteration of our Jai Alai IPA boasts the addition of white oak spirals to impart sleek notes of vanilla, coconut and a touch of dill to Jai Alai’s bold citrus and caramel character. The oak also serves to temper the bitterness in the 70 IBU base beer while oak tannins elegantly dry the beer’s body to create a unique drinking experience that still remains true to Jai Alai’s unique qualities.
