Over the past few months, teachers have done even more in ways they never had to in order to help their students deal with and understand new ways of doing normal things. And, teachers accepted the new requirements, the new ways, the new feelings, the new situations, and nearly without a beat, teachers kept teaching and supporting their students' hearts and minds. This roasty, nutty, and caramelly beer is the result of Maris Otter and Biscuit malts vying for your attention to notice their own special toasted qualities. The smaller Caramel malts just sit back and watch the show, playfully catching your tongue every now and then. The Target and East Kent Golding hops’ rich, herbal smokiness plays referee.

One day, Andrew had his own epiphany that we needed to have a dopplebock in our fermenters. It was the eureka moment he had been waiting for and now we get to enjoy the beer made from local malts and Ayinger yeast. Full bodied, quite malty, and with a bit of a toasty edge to it, this will hopefully lead you to your own moment of brilliance.

Brettanomyces, originally isolated from strong English stock beer, is said will help a beer achieve English character. What English character actually means is up for debate. What we do know is that this saison is 100% oak fermented and full of flavor. This beer's dry, crisp, and refreshing light citrus flavor is complemented with a slight funk that, whether it's of English character or not, will certainly have you in a jolly mood.

The first few beers we brewed were big, dark beers. They were the beers we were drinking most of at the time. One day, a revelation struck – not everyone likes big, dark beers. We needed something that would be a gateway beer into our other styles, and into craft beer in general. The amber style was our choice because this style presents the malts and hops in a welcoming, suggestive fashion.

In 2008, on July 29, chose overwhelmingly in favor of all four issues on the ballot in the Referendum to Legalize Alcohol Sales in Asheboro. To celebrate, we have brewed a beer in honor of one of the architects of that campaign in 2008, Steve Schmidley. His favorite style of beer was an Amber Lager and that's what we've created - a sessionable toasty, caramel-like malt backbone with a slight hop nudge.

Here at Four Saints, we’ve begun getting into lagers more and more. Having tried multiple lighter in color styles, we realized we hadn’t done a dark lager. Given the time of year, a Schwarzbier German-style Dark Lager seemed appropriate. This style shows off with a light mouthfeel, great roast flavors, and rustic character. Mellow and sharp. Dark and light. Nutty and malty. Describing this beer is a continuing flow of dichotomous descriptors.

Four Saints Brewing Co. - Sneeuw
Style: White IPA
ABV: 6.60% IBU: 45.0

Sneeuw (pronounced SNOO) is Dutch for snow. A perfect time for this style in North Carolina's notorious January where it may be a dusting or 12 inches of flaky fury. For this IPA stylization, Andrew brewed a seasonal Belgian wit ale, with some orange peel for some added zip, and hopped it with Warrior, Columbus, Chinook, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops. A slightly tart and citrusy IPA with a clean finish is the result.

The delicious holiday flavors and balanced hop character of St. Nicholas Christmas Ale is meant to be enjoyed slowly and fully with friends and family. The almost piney and spicy character of the Chinook hops mix with our blend of winter spices to invite fond memories of the family around the tree. The oaky ester of the London ESB yeast and the slightly spicy aroma of German Hallertau hops come together perfectly.

Once canonized as Czechoslovakia’s patron saint, by extension St. Wenceslaus became the patron saint of Czech brewers. The crisp, clean character of the pilsener will be a welcome beverage on hot summer days and warm summer nights. The hop character will separate it from light hopped, well-known American lagers, while being refreshing and thirst quenching.

"I like craft beer. I drink Blue Moon." How many of you have heard that? Well, for that beer drinker we introduce a crisp and refreshing Belgian White to demonstrate that not all beers are created equally. Our witbier has wonderful citrus notes with some slight pepperiness. The thick haze created by the unmalted wheat and oats foreshadows the wonderful mouthfeel of a beer that was made for Rebels, who stand against the Empire.

The Irish are known for their orange, white, and green flag. Another color they're well-known for? Red. Red hair.Red tempers. Red ale. In Randolph County, NC we are sometimes noted for our red clay. Crafting an Irish Red for St. Patrick's Day seemed suitable. Upper Road is a copper hued ale with rich malt flavors, light caramel/toffee notes, and subtle hop balance.

Beginning with the distinguished, complex nature of Belgian pale malts and Abbey yeast, the Warrior Monk steps into view. Roasted barley and chocolate malts reveal boldness. Fuggle and East Kent Golding hops give slight smiles, aware and ready. The raisin and toffee notes of Special B malts sweetly end the experience. Most walk away from this beer enlightened with a new appreciation for what Belgian-style beers are and can be.
