Twenty years has passed since Highland first opened its creaky basement door, in a town otherwise bereft of breweries. Even with vast development of beer culture in Asheville, our name anchors us here. Highland honors the legends of the Scots Irish, so deeply woven into the Southern Appalachians. With another nod to local history, we present our limited edition 20th Anniversary American India Pale Ale, the third of four in a bottled series.Hop-forward, yet balanced by a strong malt foundation, this ale pours deep golden in color. Two experimental hop varieties, currently named EXP-05256 and EXP-07270, as well as Amarillo, lend notes of citrus and tropical fruits and lead to a pleasant bitter finish.

"Lordy, that's as red as the devil's britches," exclaimed a local rancher, awed by the vibrant canopy ablaze on what is known today as Devil's Britches trail. Ashburne Mild malt produces a toasted and biscuity flavor, and Extra Special malt renders an alluring red hue. Apollo hops provide aggressive bitterness, while dry-hopping with Calypso hops yields complex fruity and floral aromas with hints of pear and apple. This devilishly delicious ale is Highland's twist on the great American IPA.

French Broad owner Andy Dahm’s family left Kiel, Germany, for the US in 1777. In the German tradition, Kiel is brewed with 100% German hops and German malt, creating a grassy, clean hop presence and crisp malt flavor.

A porter was traditionally served with oysters, the least expensive food available to the dock workers. Highland Brewing has taken this style a step farther with the addition of a judicious amount of flaked oatmeal which helps attain the smooth silky character of our porter. A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

Unfiltered St. Terese’s Pale Ale was aged in whiskey barrels for ….. months. The result is a playful balance between bright, citrus tartness and the warmth you’d expect from whiskey barrel aging. Notes of dark fruit,caramel and orange marmalade lead to a dry, crisp, slightly bitter finish.
