Beacons is a Coffee Milk Stout brewed with lactose and finished on coffee and cocoa nibs. Dark as night, this stout with light up your taste buds with chocolate and coffee notes. Oats and Lactose lend the beer a smooth, creamy texture that will leave you feeling nice and cozy. The roasty quality of the dark malts help to balance the sweetness of the lactose sugar. We used cocoa nibs from Condor Chocolates in Athens, GA and a blend of Rwandan and Columbian coffee beans from Ubora in downtown Augusta.

The floral, spicy hops come through first then the mild sweetness of the malt begins to join the flavorful dance. The balance between the hops and the malt flavors slightly favors the malt. There is bitterness, but it is not harsh at all. Just as the hops peak they quickly give way to bread, cracker and lightly sweet malt flavors. The finish lingers but is not oppressive.

This milk shake version of your favorite sour is brewed with lactose for some creamy smoothness and a touch of sweetness. We also add some lemon peel during the brew for a burst of bright citrus, and then ferment it on mango and tangerine. The end result is a sour ale that drinks a bit sweeter and creamier than Swamp Thing, but still tart and bursting with tons of fruit.
