Each year, some of San Diego’s independent brewers get together to create the official “Capital of Craft” IPA for the big, 10-day event highlighting the city’s thriving – and very much unified – craft beer scene. A few weeks ago, the group got to work concocting this year’s “Capital of Craft” batch at Second Chance Beer Co. in Poway. The collaboration included these members of the San Diego Brewers Guild: Second Chance; 3 Punk Ales Brewing Co.; Amplified Ale Works; Bagby Beer Co.; Burgeon Beer Co.; Gravity Heights; Nickel Beer Co.; and North Park Beer Co.

A German-style kettle-soured wheat beer with a cider twist, the initial aroma comes through predominantly pink guava. However, upon the first sip, the palate rolls from medium-tart guava to a hint of apple cider, dropping off-dry and moderately tart. This is a refreshingly clean, light-medium-bodied beer reminiscent of pink lemonade.?
