The Lost Abbey - 2015 Angel's Share
Style: BA Strong Ale
ABV: 14.70% IBU: 55.0

This striking Strong Ale is brewed with copious amounts of Caramel malt to emphasize the vanilla and oak flavors found in freshly emptied Brandy barrels. The beer spends a year in oak before it is packaged for release. An incredibly smooth and sweet beer with a long lasting finish. The Brandy barrel aging of the beer results in a full bodied and luscious texture layered between fruit and malts.

The Lost Abbey - Angel's Share Ale

thick, tawny head tops this deep amber brew and protests the multitude of flavors trying to escape. Nuances of vanilla, dark fruits, and oak waft upward out of the glass and tease your senses before your first sip. Simple yet profound malt flavors of caramel, toast, and sweet fruit hit your tongue, all with whiskey undertones. Rich and full, the body of this beer is underscored with vinous notes and alcohol warmth. This brew isn't cloying, but it is sweet, so the hidden hops in the finish are welcome even if they are hard to find. For a beer this easy to drink, it is surprising there is so much going on in the flavor. It is also surprising this beer has a 10% ABV, as the alcohol notes are light to moderate and only add to the intricacy of this brew.

Designed to be a hop driven beer, the aroma presents mostly European variety hops with underlying notes of fresh hay and grassy fields. There is a very low level of yeast phenols present and much of the subtle spice come from the aromatic hops. A lighter bodied beer that immediately makes an initial hop impression followed by a brief thinning layer of malt which is swallowed in the driest finish by a driven hop expression.

The beer spends over a year in the wood during which time it is spiked with three additions of raspberries.The first sip produces a sweet start with a long drawn out sour finish. So of the sweetnewss from the raspberries comes out before acidic notes join the mix. On the back end of the beer is a smoothing oak character which keeps the beer from becoming dull.

Abbey style beers often emphasize layers of malt surrounded by yeast driven complexities. Our Lost and Found Abbey Ale is the result of the judicious, but not overpowering, use of crystal malts with a teasingly dry chocolate malt finish. There is a perception of warmth from the alcohol which blends very nicely keeping the malts from being too sweet.

Style: Barrel Aged Strong Ale

From the Ultimate Box Set: “A fresh track, Track 10 began as a fresh Serpent’s Stout base aged in bourbon barrels with oodles of coffee and cacao nibs added shortly before packaging. Late in November of 2011, our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through.”

	The Lost Abbey - Track 8 Style: Quadrupel ABV: 13.70% We’ve never released a Bourbon Barrel version of our Judgment Day. So we thought it might be interesting to take the base beer for Cuvee de Tomme age in first fill Bourbon Barrels and let mother nature take over. Of course, because this is a Rock and Roll inspired Box Set beer, we couldn’t just leave well enough alone.

	The Lost Abbey - Witch's Wit Style: Witbier ABV: 4.80% Most definitely, this first and foremost a wheat ale. You can taste the wheat from start to finish. A faint toasted note from the addition of flaked oats is present in the beer as well. This is a light bodied beer that finishes with a spicy layer in the end. The overall impression should be an easy-to-drink refreshing ale.
