This classic German-style amber lager has been brewed in Germany and Austria for hundreds of years, though it was made famous for being served at Munich’s Oktoberfest celebration since 1872. Modern versions exported to the United States are often labeled Oktoberfest and the name has become synonymous in the minds of most brewers and consumers with the traditional Märzen style, though modern iterations of the style in Europe are considerably lighter. In the spirit of traditional Belgian brewing we've departed from style-constraints to bring you a fresh take on the popular European style, the Belgian Amber. This big, complex, amber-hued ale was brewed with a substantial amount of Belgian and European malts that complement the spiciness imparted by Belgian abbey yeast. The result is a perfect balance between rich, toasty maltiness, Belgian Candi sugar and the light, floral profile of European hops. AleSmith created an imperial Cali Common. Keeping stylistically sound, the brewery fermented a lager at warmer ale temperatures. The process causes the yeast to different flavors than if fermented colder. Per the brewery, the resulting beer is “a combination of fruity, mineral-like flavors, borne from the lager yeast esters.” Interestingly, this is the only time AleSmith has ever brewed this beer.

Our forecast looks to be a little “hazy.” In honor of baseball’s Winter break, our brew team came up with this hazy cousin to our popular San Diego Pale Ale. Similar to the original, Off-Season .394 pays tribute to the city that Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn loved and the career-high batting average that he achieved with the Padres in ‘94. This beer showcases an intense hop aroma of tropical fruit and citrus, but delivers a fuller-bodied pour than its predecessor, along with a smooth and creamy finish.
