Malty, caramelly, tart and toasty, earthy and citrusy, with delicious hints of bitter chocolate and dark roasted coffee. Y’know that story about the hypocrite who tattled to President Abraham Lincoln about General Grant’s drinking? Ol’ Abe answered, “Well, find out what he’s drinking so I can send a barrel to every general in the army.” We’re pretty sure Grant was drinking The Civil Life American Brown.

	Civil Life Brewing Co. - Bee Civil Style: Honey Ale ABV: 5.40% IBU: 17.0 Our first honey beer combines 150 pounds of local (Saint Genevieve, MO) wild flower honey with three types of wheat malt and some pilsner malt. This tasty, crisp, pale golden beer has bready malt characteristics along with honey aromatics and flavor, but a bone-dry finish.

Civil Life Brewing Co. - Black Lager
Style: Schwarzbier
ABV: 4.60% IBU: 33.0

Our Black Lager, or Schwarzbier in its native German, is easy to love. It's a crisp, clean, cold-fermented lager but darkly coloured with a discreet, fragrant roasty essence. Perfumey noble hops. Grainy and just a little toasty, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Light body and carbonation. Smooth and delicious, finishing with a nice dry snap. Black Lager clocks in at just 4.4% alcohol so you don't have to clock out.

Civil Life Brewing Co. - British Mild
Style: English Mild Ale
ABV: 3.90%

Check-out all the complex layers crammed into an unassuming session ale: aromas and flavours of husky cereal grains, freshly-baked brown bread and almost burnt toast, nutty, biscuity, caramelly, faint roastiness, earthy and citrusy English hops, distinctive fruity ale yeast esters. Well-rounded and almost chewy mouthfeel, yet somehow still a crisp and light impression.

Proudly brewed on Holt Avenue in St. Louis honouring the traditional brewing techniques and mineral-rich water which made the English malts and hops sing! Enjoy the rich caramel sweetness with a big bready mouthfeel which magically finishes dry. Somehow crisp and creamy, citrusy, with hints of almond butter and cacao nibs.

Civil Life Brewing Co. - Czech Pilsner
Style: Czech Pilsner
ABV: 4.90% IBU: 35.0

An authentic, uniquely flavourful pale lager. Malty, slightly bready, rich but not overly sweet. Hoppier than you’d expect too: great herbal and floral notes, black pepper spice, with a nice long finish. Soft, round, clean, bitter but balanced. The differences are slight, but Czech Pilseners are considered a bit more complex than most German examples of style. Czech yourself before you wreck yourself.

	Civil Life Brewing Co. - German Pilsner Style: German Pilsner ABV: 5.10% IBU: 56.0 Our German Pils is an authentic all-malt pilsener-style lager. Clean and crisp with hints of husky cereal grains, black pepper, vanilla, honey, and a noble hoppy snap. Bittersweet in just the right way. Full of flavour, but leaves you room for fries and a milkshake (maybe even an adult version!!).

GOOOOOOOAL!!! We wanted to brew a killer futbol beer for our friends at The Amsterdam Tavern, so what could be better than a GOAL-den ale? Strong but nimble, this athletic ale balances malt sweetness and hop bitterness. It's an easy-drinker like a lager, but a bit breadier, nuttier, with hints of nectar and dried fruit. Like Kölsch but ballsier. Whether you just kicked one to the net and need to rip your shirt and yell to the heavens or you just need nice crisp summer beer, grab our Goal!den Ale.

Civil Life Brewing Co. - Kolsch-Style Ale
Style: Kolsch
ABV: 4.90% IBU: 26.0

The Kolsch Konvention (a real thing) defines their beer as “light, highly attenuated, hop-accentuated, clear, top-fermented Vollbier.” In The New World Guide to Beer, Jackson adds “a definite, but only slight, fruity-winy bouquet...also a gentle hop dryness in the finish, flowery but less effusive than a Pilsener.” Our reproduction ticks all those boxes by using authentic ingredients and techniques from Cologne. Oktoberfest is a fall seasonal beer by design: a slow-fermented, relatively strong amber lager brewed and cellared each year in advance of the world's biggest beer festival. In true form, we brew ours annually for our big anniversary party. Though our turnout is a bit smaller than the Munich Oktoberfest (6 million people!), this remains our fastest selling beer.

It definitely would've been dressed in black. Tall and barrel-chested, warm, tart and toasty, with bittersweet coffee and chocolate notes. We find it very, very easy to be true-to-style. Just settle back and shout "Hey Porter!"

Civil Life Brewing Co. - Rye Pale Ale
Style: Rye Ale

This isn't a little Pale Ale and it isn't the biggest of Pale Ales but it's our Pale Ale and it's big but grounded by a strong malt backbone. Familiar pale ale traits plus rich graininess, subtle spice and crisp mouthfeel from the rye, lots of caramel, black pepper, pine cones, and grapefruit zest with a well-rounded bittersweet finish. Pick it up and run with it, act like you stole it... as long as you paid for it we don't care.

British ales are truly among the best in the world, and of those, "Best Bitters" are among the…well, best of all. This one falls in the same broad category as our English Pale Ale, but is even more authentic and earthy. Bready and biscuity. Grassy, woodsy with hints of herbal tea. Some subtle peppery spice, orange peel and ripe stone fruit notes. Deep colour, deep flavour, deep satisfaction.

Angel and The Sword seems like an odd name for a peace offering, but hear us out. Here is a great craft beer which IS NOT IPA. A departure from true-to-style brewing, we put a little bit of everything we've learned into this uniquely inclusive expression. Biscuity and bittersweet, familiar and unfamiliar, way more going on than its light color and alcohol content would suggest. Let us raise our goblets to the sky in one accord.

Style: Vienna Lager

Vienna, Austria, is famous for their uniquely malty-sweet amber-coloured beer. Some well-known commercial examples survive to this day, but their quality has declined over time. We promise our historically-accurate version is bigger and better overall. Crisp and grainy with some caramel sweetness, balanced by aromatic noble hops for a refreshingly dry finish. Prost!

The Big Scottish Wee-bit Heavy has a rich emphasis on malt, subtle sweentess, notes of caramel, dark fruits and toffee. It's a glorious Big Beer. This Wee-bit heavy is a perfect transition for the spring as it still is full flavored yet so wonderfully smooth. But please be careful drinking this high octane beer as it may just kick your wee-bit ass.

Civil Life Brewing Co. - Wit Beer
Style: Witbier

This opaque, straw-colored beer is modeled on the classic wheat beers of Belgium. In addition to the tart, phenolic characteristics from the yeast strain, an infusion with orange peel and coriander provides pleasant notes of fruit and spice. An aromatic, truly refreshing style with wide appeal, wit beer has long been a favorite.
