We thought, we fought, we took votes, we did blind tastings, we did sniff tests and lab tests, color tests and speed tests. After months of conversation with our friends at Ravenna & Alvarado Street, nostalgia for the bygone days of a more see-through beer has won. This year, 3-Way IPA is a WEST COAST STYLE IPA. 2022 3-Way IPA is an explosion of juicy fruit flavors. With all the bright clarity of a West Coast IPA and a rich, smooth texture, it retains a perfect, creamy white head through all the sips.

Fort George Brewery - BEACH EAGLE
Style: Mexican Lager

The perfect companion to sunny days on the beach, hanging with good friends, and tacos smothered with your favorite hot sauce. Pale in color and light on the hops, this airy Lager has a slight grainy, corn flavor along with subtle citrus and floral notes. It tastes great with or without a lime wedge tossed in. Dig those toes into the sand and grab hold of a Beach Eagle.

Style: New England Hazy IPA

Beta Hazy IPA 28s are ALSO test batches for the summer collaboration with Ravenna Brewing out of Seattle, WA and Alvarado Street Brewery from Monterey, CA. They took hand-selected lots of Strata hops and sent it to Oast House Oils in Colorado for hop oil extraction. They also used experimental hop HBC 586, designed to have fruit salad characteristics filled with tropical fruit, citrus, and berries.

Beta IPA 28s are test batches for the summer 3-Way IPA collaboration. The brewers took hand-selected lots of Strata hops and sent it to Oast House Oils in Colorado for hop oil extraction. They also used experimental hop HBC 586, designed to have fruit salad characteristics filled with tropical fruit, citrus, and berries. And they dabbled with Beta-glucosidase, an enzyme that turns hop glycosides into water & glucose molecules and helps more fully ferment the hop sugars, boosting aroma.

What is Dank? A descriptive term for beer? Very high quality cannabis? An example of auto-antonymy in human slang speech? The centuries-old term for a wet, humid and marshy place? A cognate of the word “Thanks” in Dutch and modern German? NO. Dank isn’t a word - it’s a feeling. The feeling of complete and total satisfaction that comes from a collaboration with one of the finest hop farms in the country. The same goes for Double IPAs. Add an electrifying hop bill, a lot of expensive time in the tank and suddenly - bam - an extreme luxury Double IPA that will soon be available in year round 4-packs. For this year’s spring seasonal, we teamed up with our buddies at Great Notion in Portland. Dry-hopped with a mix of traditional & newer varieties, the light grain bill allows those hops to shine. A wonderful blast of mango, pine, and tangerine tickles your nose, followed by a heavy dose of citrus & melon flavor. The bitterness appears about halfway through each sip, leaving the tiniest tingle on your tongue.

Fanzine IPA is an early spring seasonal collaboration. This year we sat down with our friends at Georgetown Brewing in Seattle and the hop masters at Yakima Chief and looked at each other fondly until this beer popped out of our heads fully-formed like the goddess Athena springing forth from Zeus’s forehead after a long headache. Just kidding, we did a lot of test batches and tasted them like normal people. The result is the ideal spring beer - packed with hundreds of pounds of the finest Cryo Hops for concentrated bursts of flavor on light, bubbly butterfly wings. Fanzine is the ultimate fan tribute to the beer world’s favorite style: The IPA.

Fort George Brewery - Fresh IPA (2023)
Style: Fresh Hop IPA

Fresh IPA was the first Fresh Hop beer we ever packaged. Each year we look for the newest, tastiest hops on the planet, then we take them - fresh off the bine - and dump them into a beer. This year, we loaded up the hop back with 500 pounds of Fresh Centennial Hops from Crosby Farms. With bright, classic piney Centennial and a little zesty Simcoe, Fresh IPA has been finely tuned and perfectly calibrated to go well with the end of summer, the beginning of the hop harvest, shorter days, longer nights, an increase in spiders and a decrease in sunburns. From the bine, to the can, to your taste buds in just a matter of days, Fresh IPA is best consumed FRESH.

A Fort George collaboration with Earth & Sky Farm of Oregon City. A bounty of hand-harvested fir tips is infused into each pint. First, we lined the mash tun with generous amounts of Oregon Grand Fir. Then we brewed a Northwest Style IPA with the piniest hop blend we could imagine. The result, a noble blend of piney hops and fresh evergreen aroma.

We’ve been making wood fired pizza in Astoria for almost a decade. Ruse’s Crust Collective on the Waterfront in Vancouver, which opened earlier this year, is a chapel built to honor the gods of pizza. Our happiness upon learning that our friends were serving pizza and beer could only be measured in more beer. Which is why we teamed up with Ruse to brew Pizza Pals. It’s the perfect beer for pizza: packed with Nelson and Simcoe Hops alongside the fanciest malts we could muster for a balanced, snappy American IPA.

FRESH HOP HAZY IPA Collaboration with RUSE BREWING The seasons are changing, daylight hours dwindle as hop farms across the land cut down their bines. The dark, low skies of the North Coast are filled with the probability of precipitation. For a second year, we’ve teamed up with Ruse Brewing to brew Sediments of Memory (from memory, of course). We crafted this brew utilizing our finest, warmest summer memories as a binding agent. Sediments of Memory is a fruity, full, barely bitter peach-colored Hazy IPA with a slightly sweet finish. Brewed at Fort George with over 600 pounds of fresh Strata Hops from Goschie Farms and about 10 pounds of memories. Hops: Indie Strata, Fresh Goschie Farm Strata, Strata CGX, Strata T90, Citra T90, Simcoe T90 Malts: Rahr 2Row, Weyermann Spelt, GM Flaked Oats Yeast: Juice

Fort George Brewery - Short Sands
Style: Helles
ABV: 4.80%

A Munich Helles Lager is the epitome of balance and nuance. Noticeable malt character, but not too malty. Noticeable hop character, but not too hoppy. The key is using quality ingredients and a meticulous process. Fort George brewed with German malts to get the proper regional flavor profile and Hallertauer Mittlefruh hops for a delicate balance of floral and fruity. Fermentation was extra low and slow, creating a clean and crisp ester profile. And traditional spunding, where the tank is kept under pressure during fermentation, produced natural carbonation. The result is a sessionable, flavorful, crisp beer for your favorite outings.

We picked hundreds of pounds of spruce tips, leaving our arms aching from the constant stabbing of the needles. Through all of that pain came a beer that cannot be rivaled in deliciousnessness. With nothing more than pilsner malt and hand-harvested spruce tips for ingredients, this beer might be the best thing you have ever put in your mouth. Hints of spruce, citrus, and more spruce - each glorious sip tastes like an adventure in the woods.

In 2014 we released an entirely different IPA, a session with a similar name. Collaborating once again with Seattle’s SUICIDE SQUEEZE RECORDS, the brewery has remastered the recipe in a big, big way. Artfully mixed like a 7” vinyl, Special Edition pops with Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra hops. Front loaded with 2-row barley and paired with deep cuts of specialty malt, this Northwest IPA is masterfully balanced.
