The name is pretty simple: we took “Buena” for good and “-veza” from cerveza. Because we’ve always believed good cerveza is an important part of a buena life.

In most cases, skipping a step is a bad thing. Not this time. This version of Stone Enjoy By IPA omits the part where we filter out the extra yeast, hop sediment and proteins that build up in beer as a natural result of the brewing process. Though it may sound like it, this missed step was no misstep. By letting this IPA go unfiltered, its peach and tropical fruit hop flavors are amplified while its golden-hued color takes on a hazy appearance. Like its filtered counterpart, this IPA is brewed specifically NOT to last, and is shipped immediately to ensure hopheads get their hands on it as soon as possible.

New England-style IPAs are all the rage. Fans of Stone repeatedly ask for our take on the style, which can be met with some criticism. Rooted in West-Coast style IPAs for decades, how would we do it? Fear no more. Our brewers took the approach to deliver incredibly hoppy and aromatic flavor while keeping it very balanced, and upping the alcohol unnoticeably - nailing this astounding one-of-a-kind creation. Overall, this unfitered double IPA is juiced up with masve Loral and Mosaic tropical and citrus notes. The mild bitterness and relatively dry body compliment the style, and the residual maltiness nicely rounds it out. Lingering lime peel and tropical fruit derived from the hops stand out on the finish, begging one to seek out more. What 3 words pinpoint where this indelible beast was born? We found inspiration in the southern hemisphere for this year's anniversary beer. This double IPA is brewed with Peacharine and Riwaka hops and a special ingredient called Phantasm – an extract from sauvignon blanc grape skins – all sourced from New Zealand. Combined with some good old-fashioned Mosaic hops from the US and an amped-up grain bill, we've got ourselves a unique sensory experience full of dankness and tropical, citrusy notes. We’ve made a hell of a lot of beers since 1996. Probably thousands at this point. Some stick around for decades, some for a few years and some are brief visits, gracing us with their hoppy presence for a short time before becoming fond memories. Occasionally stars, planets and brewing schedules align and we bring back one of these ephemeral creations. In fall of 2014 we created a draft-only version of this delicious double India pale ale. Its bitter, zesty grapefruit peel infusion created a bright accent to flavors of pine resin and fresh citrus well in advance of the explosion of fruited beers we’re all reveling in at the moment. We never stopped thinking about it, so a long five years later, we’re bringing back Stone Grapefruit Slam IPA for round two. It’s a link to the past planted delightfully in the present.

Ever wish you could make a good thing last forever? Extend the golden hour. Experience a neverending sunset. Then again, it wouldn’t be quite as special. Thus, we recommend basking in the glow of this double IPA while you can. Phantasm (a unique brewing ingredient made from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc grape skins) transforms into tropical and citrusy aromas during fermentation. Plus, there’s actual citrus in the form of sweet orange peel. This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice” crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.

Stone Xocoveza Tres Leches combines the inspiration of Oaxacan Hot Chocolate and Tres Leches treats in an imperial stout that’s smooth, creamy and intensely indulgent. Made from all that’s good about the holidays, Stone Xocoveza is brewed with chocolate, coffee, Pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. At the pop of the can, the aroma is intense – cinnamon and spice up front with lingering coffee, caramel and sweet vanilla. It is a lively blend of flavors. Sweet spices are balanced with rich and creamy chocolate. Mild roast coffee flavor shines through and vanilla enhances the intense combination. Pasilla peppers impart a light hint of heat in the finale. With all that complexity, the beer is surprisingly bright on the palate, with just a touch of the residual sweetness that all the decadent flavors imply. Like a slice of Grandma’s tres leches cake and a sip of Oaxacan Hot Chocolate, the result is creamy, intensely flavorful and silky smooth.

Stone Brewing - Zumology

Each hop harvest is an opportunity for the mad scientists of the hop industry to introduce their newest experiments. Zumo is a thrilling new hop from the folks at Segal Ranch, named after a Spanish term for citrus zest. Its vibrant lime characteristic hooked us immediately, and it was time for us to do a little experimentation of our own. We found out that Mosaic hops, when taking a backseat in the recipe for once, truly elevated Zumo’s flavor to monstrous levels of refreshing zestiness. Now we’re certified Zumologists.
