Boulevard Brewing Co. - BA Imperial Stout
Style: Barrel Aged Stout

Like India Pale Ale, the classic Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high levels of alcohol and hops to withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. Robust grain and coffee flavors are counterbalanced by date and plum notes from the Belgian yeast. To add extra complexity and depth, this Imperial Stout is made up of a blend of freshly brewed beer and several barrel-aged beers, carefully balanced.

Collaboration with Firestone Walker Brewery. A wheat wine blended and fermented with white grapes from Paso Robles, and a wheat wine fermented with Kveik yeast in Kansas City. Each beer was barrel-aged in a mix of whiskey and rye barrels and finally all blended together producing a dry, light-bodied barrel-aged wheat wine.

Boulevard Brewing Co. - Bourbon Barrel Quad
Style: Belgian Quadruple
ABV: 11.20% IBU: 26.0

This abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel's share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Changeling is an enchanting blend of dark sour ales aged in whiskey and wine barrels that were inoculated with Brettanomyces and lactobacillus. It pours a deep ruby color with touches of gold at the edges of the glass. Leading with plum and toasty malt, the flavor transmutes into a soft tartness, with notes of earthy, funky Brett and a touch of lingering caramel to create a delicate balance.

The most sophisticated way to enjoy Port wine is straight up, or “neat,” in a proper port glass. The same rule applies to whiskey. But what about an imperial stout that’s been aged first in bourbon barrels, and then aged a second time in Ruby Port wine barrels? We believe that straight from the bottle into a glass is the most Proper Pour. Proper Pour spent 6 months in Ruby Port barrels that had been used at a distillery to age rye whiskey for 3 months. Because Ruby Port is a full-bodied, super sweet dessert wine, the rye that was finished in the port barrels isn’t super prevalent in the final beer, and that’s what the brewers were counting on.

Rosemary IPA is best categorized as a Red IPA as the malt bill is composed of pale malt, Amber 50, Midnight Wheat and melanoidin malt. Rosemary leaves are steeped in the wort at the end of the boil during the whirlpooling step. For the second Rye-on-Rye X release, we drew inspiration from the famous New Orleans cocktail, the Sazerac. The official recipe is composed of rye whiskey, absinthe or Herbsaint, a sugar cube and bitters all garnished with a lemon peel. To translate this classic cocktail into a beer, we brewed batches of the base rye beer that received spice additions mimicking bitters as well as lemon peel during the boil. The resulting wort was fermented with our house Scottish ale yeast before being aged in freshly emptied Templeton Rye barrels.

Re-fermented on 30,000 pounds of both whole Norton grapes and pressed Norton grape juice, this love letter to wild fermentation blurs the line between beer and wine, and is our most ambitious fruited mixed-culture beer to date.

Over-the-top but surprisingly approachable, this twist on the classic style starts with several types of malted barley, rye, oats and wheat. Robust flavors of vanilla, espresso, whiskey, chocolate and roasted grain are balanced by hints of date and plum, with just enough hops to round it all out. Roughly one-third of the final blend is freshly brewed beer; the rest is aged for up to a year (or more!) in both first and second use whiskey casks.

This year we are proud to present White Chocolate Ale made with coffee from our friends at Hammerhand Coffee located right here in Missouri. Taking a cue from previous releases we've lightened the body, and kissed the beer with white chocolate, coffee, and vanilla flavor, creating a smooth partner for cozy nights in, or to be paired with the most decadent desserts.
