An American Pale Ale. For batch number 1500, Josh & Brian decided to brew a big hoppy beer, yet make it quaffable by keeping the alcohol level down. Turns out everyone liked it so much, that it is now brewed year-round. Loads of Simcoe and Amarillo hops are blended in the fermenter, just after fermentation has finished, to impart a huge aroma of pine and citrus.

As we approached our 1500th batch in San Leandro, the brewers decided to attempt something different. They set out to make a pale ale with a clean, stripped down malt bill and plenty of late addition hops that would give the beer huge flavors and aromas of bright citrusy American hops without overwhelming the balance with bitterness. The resulting beer packed the aromatic and flavorful hop punch of a West Coast-style IPA at a very easy drinking 5.5% ABV. The brewer and the people loved it. Now 1500 is a Drake’s flagship beer.

Aroma Coma’s sister beer mirrors its twin starting with primarily American 2-row barley malt. and a touch of Caramalt for body. From there, we turn things upside down. This time, Prieta leaves behind Aroma Coma’s North American hops for some Southern Hemisphere hop action. New Zealand hops Nelson Sauvin, Pacific Jade, and Motueka and Aussie hop Helga in the double dry-hop give Aroma Prieta huge notes of tropical fruit, gooseberries, and grapefruit. Like Aroma Coma but different: breathe in these hops and enjoy.

This year’s Jolly release is a special collaboration with Oakland’s own Highwire Coffee company. We brewed an Imperial Coffee Porter with Highwire’s carefully selected roast from the Huila region of Columbia: Colombia Huila Finca La Ilusion Natural – a naturally processed Colombian coffee grown at high altitude and featuring intense raspberry aromatics. To best showcase the coffee flavor, we’ve built a balanced Imperial Porter that enhances the fruit notes without burying it under excessive roast.

After years of amassing booty on the high seas, Drake’s Jolly Rodger naturally acquired a taste for the finer coffees brought to life by artisan, specialty roasters. That’s why this year, Jolly teamed up with Blue Bottle Coffee’s meticulous roasters in Oakland for his latest incarnation, Jolly Rodger 2015 Coffee Imperial Stout. Rich and complex, this beer features luscious chocolaty and subtle roasted malt flavors that blend expertly with a specially made roast of Kenyan Kangunu coffee to create aromas of caramelized stone fruit and flavors of black currant, tobacco, and caramel.

Two tons of Grenache grape skins were thrown on top of 12 barrels of our Flanders style sour red. Tart, jammy, with red wine accents. This beer is a bold wine/beer hybrid with flavors reminiscent of ripe raspberries, a kiss of peppery spice, and balancing tannins.

Rice Stratasphere delivers an aromatic explosion: tropical, dank and onward into the strata. One of the best new hops to hit the tanks lately is Strata, a monster of a hop with huge aromatics of citrus, indica, and guava. Citra and Denali hops add further layers of complexity, while a dry and clean body from extra pale Pilsner malt, Admiral Pils and puffed Jasmine rice give these hops room to shine. A deep, dark “Robust Porter,” a beer style known for being darker, fuller-bodied, and higher in alcohol by volume than a standard Brown Porter. Our Black Robusto goes down smoothly with flavors of bittersweet chocolate and slight roast from Crystal and Chocolate malt. A touch of spicy, herbal hop character from Willamette hops balances out the finish. Enjoy a pint with dark, lingering satisfaction. Available Year Round.

Rye Robustitio is a session-sized take on our Black Robusto Porter. Robustito has all the body and flavor of its bigger sibling, aged for Four months in Highwest Rye barrels. This beer features just a kiss of spirits character with subtle oaky and vanilla notes melding with Robustito’s chocolate and roast. This beer drinks light and refreshing but with all the barrel aged complexities you enjoy in your other barrel aged favorites.

Drake's Brewing - Vin-Drak
Style: Sour
ABV: 9.75%

Drake's took its Drakonic Imperial Stout and fermented it on Grenache grape skins with a blend of wild yeast and lactic bacteria to turn this malty monster into a completely new creature. Initial fermentation was in a stainless tank, then transferred into Zinfandel and Petit Syrah barrels, and left to condition for eight months. The final blend is a mixture of vinous grape and tart raspberry with a pleasant dark chocolate and tobacco-like malt profile.

Our newest IPA is dry and bright with the golden hue of a fading day. What starts as a faint hum builds to a roaring crescendo as the War Pigeons take to the sky. A telegraphed warning comes over the wire but it's too late. You've been hit. We deployed the freshest weapons in our hop arsenal and the payload is a blast of dank, floral citrus. Surrender to the aromatic blitzkrieg as the hops rain down.

Yes Way! Hazy IPA is a tribute to our rockin’ packaging duo, Gil & Fredd, who created this most excellent beverage. This super juicy double dry-hopped hazy IPA uses experimental hops with virtually no bitterness. Enjoy pillow like malt with hop notes of mango, guava, tropical fruit, and pine, and remember - "Be excellent to each other!"
