Peace Tree has teamed up with our friends at Iowa City’s iconic John’s Grocery to create this kettle-soured witbier. John’s Grocery has been an institution in Iowa City for generations, first opening their doors in 1948. They were one of the pioneering wine & spirits shops in the Midwest for carrying imported beers from Germany and Belgium, as well as American craft beers and sours. This brew starts with pale malted barley, wheat and oats and is kettle-soured before finishing fermentation with a Belgian yeast. Coriander and orange peel complement the yeast esters with a spicy, citrus character.

Peace Tree Brewing Co. - Black River Gumbo Stout
Style: Stout
ABV: 5.50%

This dark deliciousness is named after the gumbo dirt of the Des Moines River bottom which nourished our Peace Tree and is now used as the surface for Knoxville’s famous Sprint Car track. Instead of using traditional ale yeast required of a stout, a Belgian yeast was used to add complexity. This stout is brewed with high quality pale malt, three roasted malts and two caramel malts. The dark roasted caramel malts contribute to the chocolate and toffee characteristics. Three varieties of hops contribute to the bitterness and aromas of this beer.

Style: Belgian Blonde

Our Belgian-style Blonde Ale will steal your heart as the unfiltered golden hue seduces your taste buds with surprising smoothness. It’s delicately hopped with Styrian Golding and Celeia for medium aroma with a crisp and refreshing bite. The Belgian yeast adds hints of fruity complexity, but be warned – it’s mysterious charm will draw you in again and again. And, at 8.5% ABV, will catch up with you if you’re not careful. Late summer brings some of the best in local produce and Joe has made the best of it with Cornucopia, his farmhouse style ale brewed with Iowa Sweet Corn. This was one of the first brews he made last year to appeal to the locals around Knoxville and it was met lots of enthusiasm. Originally, it was informally called Iowa Corn Beer. Over a couple of pints last spring as we were planning our fall, the name Cornucopia was thrown out, probably by Joe, and it stuck. It’s catchy, fun and a little silly. But don’t let the name fool you, this is a beer that serious beer people love!

This gold-medal winner is a big, juicy, citrus-forward IPA that’s silky smooth without the bitterness. It’s a premium IPA that surprises people who normally avoid IPAs. This brew is for hop-huggers. We’ve added over 2-1/2 times the hops of our Hop Wrangler 3 IPA with four varieties of hops in six massive additions! With over 1-1/2 times the barley of our standard beers, our grist hopper was nearly overflowing. Fermentation with the same Belgian yeast as our Hop Wrangler 3 IPA rounds out this bold beer.

Joe’s multinational take on a classic IPA. IPA’s are known for their intense hop bitterness, flavor and aromas. First, Joe used American and English malt, then American and English hops are added during the mash, first wort, boil, and finally it’s dry hopped for aroma. Belgium gets involved with the yeast and a special candy sugar finish for smoothness and flavor.

Kiss from a Gose is our twist on a classic German gose (pronounced “goes-uh”). This cloudy, golden ale is brewed with malted wheat and barley and undergoes a kettle souring for pronounced tartness. Coriander and hops complement the acidity with a dry spiciness. Premium sea salt from the Oregon coast is added for a hint of brine and the addition of rose hips imparts a subtly floral, citrus character.

Our Orange Gose (“Goes-uh”) is a citrus twist on the German original, a style of beer our brew master has helped bring to the midwest. This golden ale is brewed with malted wheat and barley and undergoes a kettle souring for pronounced tartness. Sea salt, coriander and orange zest complement the acidity with a dry, floral spiciness. Finally, we double-down on the fruity, citrus character with a final addition of natural orange.

Since the brewery is located in what was once a Nash Rambler car dealership, it seemed appropriate to honor this history with a beer. The Red Rambler Ale is also one of the most popular in our taproom with its deep red color and malty flavor. The malt character is balanced with three varieties of hops. It is a versatile beer that can be enjoyed alone or pairs well with a broad spectrum of foods, especially flavorful meat, fish and cheese.

Loaded with American and New Zealand hops, and fermented with an American yeast.

	Peace Tree Brewing Co. - Rye Porter Style: Porter ABV: 6.00% High quality pale, carmel, chocolate and Munich malts get a boost with roasted and chocolate rye. Dark and Light Belgian Candy Sugar is added to the kettle during the boil for smoothness and flavor. Belgian yeast gives off some fruity esters and the brew is delicately hopped so as to not overpower the malt flavors.
